Abstract
r-irradiation inhibits the sprouting of onions. On the contrary it shows a tendency to make to increase the decay. In order to improve this phenomenon, we adjusted the harvesting time of onions, and afterwards, irradiated with the dose of 3-15 Krad, and investigated the rate of decay and sprouting. As a result of this, it showed a remarkable effect on the early harvested onion. As it were, on the 5 Krad dose group, the rate of decay is 28%, 40% and 54% respectively for early, proper, late harvesting lot. And the rate of sprouting is 5% in early harvesting lot, the other group is 36%, 32% respectively.
Therefore the former is less than the latter in yield per 10 a, but availability of storage is highest. Rest period of onion seems to be terminated around the beginning of August, considering the respiratory rise and change of nucleic acid content.
